I started using essential oils over a decade ago. They have been a great supplement in our home for swapping out toxic ingredients for clean, natural options and solutions. If you don’t already use oils, and feel overwhelmed on how to start, I wanted to share some of the ways that we have utilized them, and the benefits we have seen.

Cleaning

One approachable way to get started is to swap your regular cleaning products for cleaner options. This Home Solutions Kit is what we use in our house, and I can’t recommend it enough. I love the fresh scents, the lack of harsh chemicals, and their effectiveness in cleaning!

Personal Use

Let me start by saying that I fully believe in modern science, and western medicine. I’m a huge advocate for seeing professional healthcare workers for illness and injury. There are, however, a lot of minor ailments that can be aided by using oils. It’s been awesome having a less-invasive alternative when those issues arise.

When I was diagnosed with meningitis, and during the months that followed, I had severe headaches daily. I was able to take pain medication, but it never fully relieved them. The pain was the worst in the evenings, and made it difficult to sleep. I tried a lot of additional interventions, and the one that made the biggest difference was a combination of oils that I would apply on the base of my neck and shoulders every night before bed. I mixed Doterra’s Deep Blue, Copaiba, and Frankincense, then put on my heating pad. The relief was unbelievable.

I often share about this incredible Aira facial steamer I use from Vanity Planet. It honestly is one of my favorite self-care items that I’ve ever purchased (and it’s currently 50% off!!). I make it extra rejuvenating by adding a few drops of oil to the distilled water–I rotate which oil, depending on my mood!

Kids Oils

They have been really empowering for my children too! We have a lot of anxiety in our family, and we have worked hard to teach our kids to be in tune with their emotions and stress-levels. When they are feeling overwhelmed or scared, they love to grab the Calm oil roller and take time to relax. I also like to rub some of the oils into their feet to help them deescalate. Before bed they like to put the Restful blend on their necks to help them sleep. This Kids Oil Collection has all of the most commonly used oils for children.

Diffusing

I am very sensitive to smells, and get headaches when I’m around strong scents and perfumes. Last year we stopped using sprays and plug-ins to make our home smell refreshed, and switched to diffusing oils. Doterra has an awesome collection of diffusers, and I also really like this black/cream diffuser from Target.

As far as oils I choose to diffuse in my house, I just go with the ones that I think smell the best! My current fall favorites are Madagascar Vanilla and Hygge.

I am no expert in the realm of essential oils, but from my 10+ years of experience with them, I can tell you that they are a wonderful supplement to keep in your home. I am always happy to answer any questions you have about them!

XO, ASHLEY
